Forensic Engineering

Forensic engineering is a specialised field of engineering focused on investigating the causes of failures, damage and technical incidents, and reconstructing the sequence of events for the purposes of disputes, legal proceedings and business decisions.

Ustalamy, co naprawdę się wydarzyło. We determine what actually happened. When a machine fails, a structure cracks, an installation does not achieve the required performance, or a dispute arises over the quality of workmanship, identifying the damage alone is not enough. The key is to establish the failure mechanism, the chain of cause and effect, and the factors that actually led to the incident.

The Forensic Engineering Office provides independent technical and root cause analyses for public authorities, law firms, companies and parties to industrial disputes. The purpose of the analysis is not to support the commissioning party’s position, but to objectively establish the sequence of events and their causes to the extent supported by the available data, testing, documentation and other technical evidence. niezależne analizy techniczne i przyczynowo-skutkowe na potrzeby organów państwowych, kancelarii prawnych, przedsiębiorstw oraz uczestników sporów przemysłowych.

The Office conducts engineering investigations and on-site inspections throughout Poland and undertakes selected international assignments.

Reducing the risk of basing litigation strategy on incorrect technical assumptions and assessing the evidential potential of the available material.

DURING LEGAL PROCEEDINGS

Independent technical review of expert witness reports prepared during legal proceedings. Identification of methodological errors, gaps in causal reasoning and departures from applicable standards and technical requirements (ISO / PN-EN / ASTM). Independent verification and critical analysis of expert evidence.

AT THE APPEAL STAGE

Independent re-assessment of expert reports for inconsistencies between their conclusions and the principles of physics, engineering practice, applicable standards and design guidelines. Formulation of technical and engineering grounds that may support an effective appeal or challenge to the findings.

FORENSIC ENGINEERING OFFICE

Through active participation in ASTM International Committee E58 on Forensic Engineering, the Office applies internationally recognised forensic engineering methodologies and standards in Poland. Committee E58 develops standards and guidance relating to forensic investigations, the preservation and examination of physical evidence, and professional practice in forensic engineering. The Office also works with recognised specialists across relevant engineering disciplines and with laboratories accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation.

Based on the available documentation and technical evidence, I identify the actual root causes of failures and damage.

Expert Report Review & Technical Rebuttal

I assess whether the conclusions presented in expert reports are consistent with engineering principles, applicable technical standards and the available evidence. I identify methodological, technical and logical errors in reports submitted by the parties.

Technical Damage Assessment

I determine the technical extent of damage and the scope of work required to restore the asset to its original condition. Cost assessments are based on engineering evidence and realistic technical requirements.
