FORENSIC ENGINEERING PRACTICE AREAS

The Office provides independent and objective technical investigations in matters requiring the determination of failure causes, damage mechanisms, compliance with technical requirements and the allocation of technical responsibility. The scope of each investigation is tailored to the nature of the incident and the available evidence. Depending on the case, the work may include on-site inspections, materials testing, technical documentation review, engineering calculations, process data analysis and reconstruction of the causal sequence of events. Materials Engineering, Welding & Metallurgy

I investigate failure mechanisms in metals, polymers and composites and identify the underlying causes of damage, including material defects, improper heat treatment, corrosion and operational overload. Investigations may include metallographic and microstructural examination, SEM analysis, chemical composition assessment and evaluation of material conformity with technical specifications and applicable standards. I also assess welded, brazed, bonded and mechanically joined connections, including the influence of manufacturing imperfections on structural capacity and serviceability.

Steel Structures & Industrial Infrastructure

I investigate failures of steel structures and damage to industrial infrastructure. The analysis may include design errors, fabrication defects, workmanship issues, external influences and operating conditions. I document the extent of damage and assess compliance with applicable technical standards and design requirements. I analyze whether the delivered industrial systems meet the client’s requirements (contractual terms). I analyze the cause-and-effect sequences of events and failures in industrial systems.
